When planning a Los Angeles wedding, many couples dream of a venue that feels both elevated and unmistakably LA. For Sean and Ryan, that meant finding a spot with historic charm, sophisticated vibes, and plenty of personality—without falling into the trap of a generic ballroom.
Their choice? The stunning Carondelet House in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA). This 1928 Italian-inspired villa delivered exactly what they envisioned: a space that felt like hosting a big, intimate dinner party where they just happened to be getting married.
A Love Story Rooted in USC Tradition
Sean and Ryan’s relationship began on the field—literally. Both played trumpet in the USC Marching Band. Sean, an alum, and Ryan, a current student at the time, met standing side by side during the 2017 Rose Bowl Game (where USC famously beat Penn State).
Fast forward to their wedding day, and the couple brought that full-circle magic back to life. They had the USC Marching Band perform live at the reception—and even joined in themselves. It was a personal, joyful nod to where it all started, adding an energetic, unforgettable layer to their LA celebration.
Why Carondelet House Felt Like Home
Although the couple no longer lives in Los Angeles full-time, the city remains deeply rooted in their story. Sean grew up in LA, and Ryan completed college and med school here. They wanted a DTLA wedding venue that captured the essence of home: classy and sophisticated, yet warm and full of character.
Carondelet House checked every box. Tucked away on Carondelet Street, this hidden gem blends historic Italian villa architecture with modern warmth—think warm wood floors, exposed brick, expansive rooms, and beautiful outdoor transitions. It’s elegant without being stuffy, vibrant without being overwhelming.
“We wanted a place that felt classy and sophisticated but still very Los Angeles,” they shared. “Something with personality and not your typical wedding venue. It felt like throwing a big, intimate dinner party we’re hosting… we just also happen to be getting married!”
For couples searching for unique DTLA wedding venues, Carondelet House stands out as a sophisticated alternative to more conventional options. Its versatile layout supports seamless flow from ceremony to cocktails to reception, making it ideal for personalized, story-driven Los Angeles weddings.
Capturing the Magic as an LA Wedding Photographer
As a Los Angeles wedding photographer, moments like these are pure gold. The combination of historic venue details, live USC band energy, and the couple’s genuine connection created endless heartfelt and cinematic opportunities.
From trumpet-filled processional surprises to quiet, laughter-filled dinner party vibes, the day balanced grand celebration with intimate connection. Carondelet House’s natural light and architectural character provided a beautiful backdrop that photographed effortlessly—perfect for couples who want images that feel both elevated and authentic.
